When Looking For Used Servers

By James Byron

Perhaps you are thinking about cutting costs with used servers or other equipment. There is a lot of previously owned equipment for sale that will provide years of dependable service for less money. However, one should know as much as possible about second hand equipment, before making a purchase.

When you shop second hand equipment, price may be the determining factor. It is important to find equipment that fits into your budget. Yet, it is best not to make cost the most important factor in your decision. Sometimes the cheapest models come with a lot of problems.

Warranty is very important for IT equipment. You want something that has a long warranty, and a lifetime warranty is best. However, you may be able to purchase extended warranties on some equipment. Price is one of the major concerns when it comes to extended warranties. It is best to choose something that has the warranty as part of the purchase price.

A good warranty will save you a lot of time and money on maintenance. This goes for new as well as used servers. Your equipment needs to operate twenty four hours a day and seven days a week. You may have clients or customers depending on your equipment. There is no place for frequent trouble or down time issues.

Warranties are only as good as the business behind them. It is vital to choose equipment that can be repaired or updated to OEM standards. The company should have qualified technicians that make sure IT equipment is properly tested. Look for a company with stringent quality control standards and thoroughly tests everything that they sell.

When shopping used servers, service matters a great deal. Only deal with top quality customer service. When you wish to contact the company, you should talk to someone that knows how to take care of your needs. You should have all questions answered and problems resolved satisfactorily. Look for businesses that employ professional customer service reps that are efficient and courteous. This tells you that they are professionals.

A lifetime warranty means very little if the company goes out of business. Do not buy from just any company, because it seems like a great deal. Also, try to avoid "as is" purchases, as you have no recourse if problems develop. Deal with businesses that you can trust and depend on. Before you purchase used servers or any equipment, check into the background of the seller.
