How to get the best deals on printer ink

By John Pickering

Printers require ink. It's a fact of life. Another fact is that printer ink costs money. Every time you purchase a cartridge, you spend more of your hard-earned dollars to print everything from photos to important documents. Printing is a way of life these days, and running out of ink at the wrong time can lead to some mild panic. These days, at the very least you can spend just a bit less by buying separate colors - cyan, yellow, and magenta - instead of a brand new color cartridge every time. But aren't there other ways to save money on ink?

The answer is, in fact, a resounding yes. There are many ways to save money when it comes to buying ink for your printer. From small businesses to individual use, when you're smart and do your research, you can find some excellent deals on the exact printer cartridges that you need.

Check the internet first.

It's time to go online and start searching for retailers that sell ink. Skip the retail store and spend less by choosing an online vendor. Online sites that offer ink typically sell it at a much lower price than what you would find in a store. These discounts can really help you save money. Finding the cartridges you need is often very easy and very quick. Even better, it isn't hard to discover coupon codes that give you additional discounts. Whether you sign up for their emails or just see one on the site, you can get everything from 15% off ink to free shipping deals.

Online stores also offer something that you won't find in a retail outlet - remanufactured ink cartridges. These cartridges have already been used once, but have been thoroughly cleaned, tested, and refilled with ink. They typically cost much less than an original equipment manufacturer ink cartridge and can save you even more money - especially since many of these online locations allow their discount codes to work on remanufactured cartridges as well.

How much ink do you need?

Whether you want to buy online or at a physical location, typically you can save some money buy purchasing ink in bulk. For individuals, this may not work at an actual store since many consider a bulk order to be as little as 10 products, though possibly more. Businesses can see real savings in bulk purchases if you can't afford to wait for shipping.

You may also be able to buy in bulk at retail locations, but keep in mind this is best for businesses that need a lot of ink. Individuals typically don't need large orders, which means you won't get any kind of discount if you're only buying a handful of cartridges like online. But for those who need a lot of ink now and can't wait for shipping, buying a lot of ink can lead to a percentage discount. However, every store is different, so always ask about bulk buying policies before putting in an order.

Just refill it

One type of money saving method that a lot of people tend to forget about is simply refilling their old cartridges with more ink. There are locations you can visit that offer these services and can help save money because you don't need to buy a brand new cartridge every time. They'll clean it and refill it and send you on your way. Check their policies in case something doesn't work right once you get home and try to print something. A good place will stand by their work.

You can also refill the cartridge yourself. There are refill kits out there that allow you to do so, though you will still need to buy the actual ink to do the refilling. Make sure your cartridges can allow for this sort of thing before you invest in a kit, though.

Remember, you don't have to pay full price for an ink cartridge if you know where to look!
